Cameron’s Little World!
So the Journey we are on looks like this. Cameron needs new meds for his ADHD. He has also been diagnosed with OCD which I learned a lot about. OCD is an anxiety disorder. Something that I did not know also. So when at one time I said I think he has anxiety issues I did not know that OCD is in that group as well. I am going to try to explain this. This is Cameron and I am not sure that it follows every OCD case. For Cameron Obsessive is the object and Compulsive is the action. Thus the reason he is “stuck” on one particular thing. (Obsessed with food, bats, volcanoes, weather, tornados, etc.……..) The compulsive is his action the constant talking, watching, etc.. The other issue with this is that if you draw a circle and put a line 3/4 of the way through on the small section put thinking and big section put emotion. When Cameron as I say his world gets rocked.(to many people, something didn’t go as planned, something happened) The thinking portion goes away and all emotion takes over. He is so flooded with emotion and there is no thinking time. It is overwhelming as he has no ways to cope or deal with that. Cameron also tested very high average for is non verbal cognitive scores. Along with that he tested average for verbal and average for working memory but for processing speed he was very low average. So we are talking 127 for Non verbal and a 74 for processing so anxiety and frustration are a huge component in that area. He has had issues with going outside because of bugs and flies. He wont touch anything outside if it has a spider web by it.Won't eat food that looks different. Those are the little things which are huge to him that we will need to try and overcome or find a way to deal with them and the tantrums, communication. Cameron will now go to behavioral therapy and they will teach him ways to cope with these things. Even if it is as simple as saying “I am okay” over and over in his head. He may need to go on anti anxiety meds. Over time in therapy we will learn what needs to be done. Praying that therapy alone will work. The ADHD is just another issue in itself that has to be fit into the equation and dealt with accordingly. The deal is we finally have answers and a path to help him. Hopefully this helped those who wanted to know and helps you to understand what I understand at this moment. I am sure there is lots for us to still learn. Mike and I will be taking a Mental Health class up at Children's hopefully in the next 6 months. It will be a 6 week class and we will be able to learn about OCD and ADHD in children.
